Bill was born January 26, 1924 in Versailles, Missouri the son of the late Dr. William F. and Frances Ada (Castle) Huffman. He attended school both in Versailles and Stover. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Corps. While serving, he travelled the country playing various instruments in the Air Corps band along with other duties. Upon being discharged, he attended college in Warrensburg, Missouri before moving to Kansas City and meeting his future wife, Betty E. Thurman. They were united in marriage on May 13, 1951. They lived in Raytown until 1975, when the family moved to Clinton, Missouri due to his job transfer with Rival cooperation. He worked for Rival for 38 years before retiring. Bill was also very active in the Pioneer Gun Club, earning many awards for his superior marksmanship in spite of being blind in one eye. As a longtime member of the Clinton Christian Church, he taught Sunday school for many years, and assisted in various roles within the life of the church.
Many knew Bill to be a man of few words, but those who experienced the tremendous blessings of being with him after Betty passed away heard many wonderful stories of his life. He could also fix any type of machinery to the smallest piece of jewelry with meticulous detail in spite of being blind in one eye. Throughout his life he was so loved and cherished by all who got to know him. He will be greatly missed.
