Wayne was born on December 9, 1932, in Clinton, Missouri, to Floyd and Clara Sherman Wallace. He married the love of his life, Virginia Elizabeth Brown, on June 17, 1956, near Clinton, where they lived together for more than 50 years before moving to Warrensburg in 2014. They celebrated 61 years of marriage prior to Virginia's death in 2017.

Wayne was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He worked for Alva Allen Industries after graduation from Clinton High School, prior to being drafted. Upon returning from service, he ran a Mobile gas station. In the early 1960's, he and Virginia became co-owners of Dunning Furniture Store, located in the historical Henry County Bank Building on the Clinton square, first with Marsh Dunning and later his nephew Mark Smith and wife Gay. In the mid 1970's, Wayne and Virginia, along with Shobe and Waneta Smith, also operated the Spirit of America Ice Cream Parlor on the square. Upon his retirement and closing of the furniture store, Wayne began working part-time for the Henry County Assessor's office, which he continued to do until his health declined in his early 80's.

Wayne was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Warrensburg, and he had previously belonged to the Allen Street Baptist and First Baptist churches of Clinton, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the Sunrise Optimist club. He was an avid golfer, bowler, and fisherman and belonged to the Clinton Country Club for many years. He was a fan of the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs, but he was happiest watching, and especially videotaping, his children and grandchildren as they pursued athletic, music and other talents. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, spending time with friends, playing cards, traveling together and just enjoying coffee and visiting.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife Virginia, by both parents, two brothers, Herschel and Howard Wallace, and a great-granddaughter, Stella Nimmer.

Wayne is survived by one sister, Waneta Smith, of Clinton; one brother-in-law John Henry Brown and wife Margaret Ann of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; one daughter, Carole Nimmer and husband Donald of Warrensburg; one son, Christopher Wallace and wife Debora Ann Vickers Wallace of Lee's Summit; seven grandchildren; Timothy Nimmer and wife Tracy of Castle Rock, Colorado; Angela Noland of Kearney, Missouri; Natalie Nimmer of Honolulu, Hawaii; Michael and Elizabeth Nimmer of Warrensburg; Raleigh and Clara Wallace of Lee's Summit; and four great-grandchildren, Luke and Grant Noland and Siena and Jackson Nimmer, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, Missouri.
