Vincent Scott
Journey
Mar 12, 1959 — Feb 10, 2025
Clinton
Vincent Scott Journey, age 65, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025 at his home in Clinton, Missouri. Memorial service will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at the Vansant-Mills Chapel in Clinton, Missouri with visitation from 10:00-11:00 AM prior to the service.
He is survived by his brother, Rockwell Journey, and a daughter, Lexi Journey, and a son, Vince Journey, both from his marriage to Elsa Ruiz.
Vin had a love for science and nature, especially geology. This passion combined with his strong analytical mindset, allowed him to achieve a number of academic and professional accomplishments. He earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Geological/Geophysical Engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology and a Master of Science (MS) in Petroleum Engineering from University of Southern California (USC). He was a proud alumni of both these institutions and was also proud to be a Missouri Registered Geologist.
From there, he was able to use his unique scientific expertise in many different positions from private consulting to academia to local and state governments. His most recent roles before he retired included being the Director of Henry County Office of Emergency Management and a Professor at Cottey College, an independent, liberal arts and sciences women's college in Nevada, Missouri. He was also a consultant with EG&E Earth services and was the first state employee at the Missouri Department of Natural Resources field office at the US Department of Energy's Kansas City National Security Campus.
Vin always made time to pursue his personal interests as well. He enjoyed collecting fossils such as trilobite and geodes. Vin also loved animals and had many different types of pets throughout his life, from Bengal cats to parrots to pugs, but his constant was always having at least one extensive aquarium.
He shared his love of the outdoors with his kids, taking them fishing, camping, and canoeing. He even had them be citizen scientists at an early age when he had them collect water quality monitoring data for the creeks on his property as part of Missouri's Stream Team. Instilling these values played a big part in his kids lives. His daughter is an environmental consultant and both his kids' favorite pastime is being emersed in nature, especially on brother/sister backpacking trips.
His favorite song he knew by heart and loved to sing was "The Preacher and the Bear", released in 1904.
