Obituary

Sonya Beth Hehner, 52, of Deepwater, Missouri, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2026 at Lee's Summit Medical Center, in Lee's Summit, Missouri.  Sonya's Celebration of Life service will be August 29th, 2026, at 11:00 am at Crossroads Church of the Nazarene, 1003 Carriage Drive, Deepwater, Missouri 64740. The family will receive friends from 10AM to 11 AM at the church. A meal will be served at the church, following the service.  Gifts may be given directly to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home or to Crossroads Church of the Nazarene in care of Peggy Keith, where she will ensure all funds will be used for final expenses. Fond memories and condolences can be left online at www.vansant-millsfuneralhome.com

Sonya was a member of Crossroads Church of the Nazarene, where she proudly taught Sunday School with her husband Steve, until her failing health.  Her hobbies included cooking, fishing, hunting, crocheting, going to demolition derby's and truck and tractor pulls.

Sonya loved her pets - Wookie and Bear, her canine friends, Baby Girl, her cat and the latest addition to the family, Tigress, her kitten.

She graduated Smith Cotton High in 1993 and continued her education at Colorado Technical University class of 2010.  She also attended State Fair Community College.

She was also preceded in death by her mother and 2 rainbow babies.  She spoke often of this loss and how she would one day be reunited with them.  I would guess her arms and heart are full today as she gently cuddles this long-awaited reunion.  If heaven has a rocking chair she's rocking tonight.

She is survived by her husband of the home.  Her three sons, Hunter Thompson of the home, Brandon Thompson (girlfriend) Cassie of Warrensburg, Missouri, Tristan Thompson of Warsaw, Missouri, and beloved Grandson Nathan Thompson of Warrensburg, Missouri.  Other survivors include sisters Kara Jordan of Cottage Grove, Minnesota and Amy Ayers of Maryland and brothers Tim Mercer of Sedalia, Missouri and Joe Mercer of Kansas City.

Services are under the direction of Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, MO.
