Ronald L. Shepherd, age 76 of Clinton passed away Thursday, April 19, 2018 at the Clinton Healthcare and Rehab. Ron was born September 15, 1941 in Shawnee, Kansas to Marcene Woolery and William Lee Shepherd. The family moved to Osceola, Mo during Ron's early childhood years. Ron is preceded in death by his mother Marcene, father Bill, his youngest brother Dennis Eugene Shepherd, and his dear friend John W. Aseere.
Ron is survived by his sister Sharon Shepherd of Clinton, Mo, his brother Dwayne Shepherd of Warsaw, Mo, and his brother Jack Shepherd of Clinton, Mo. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well.
Ron graduated from Clinton High School in 1959. He worked at the Lee Theater during his teenage years. After high school he joined the Army. He served 4 years in Germany as a medic.
Ron's life took him from coast to coast. He lived many years in Oregon and Florida. Ron moved back to Missouri in 2001 to be closer to his family and a host of friends in Kansas City. Ron was a giving, loving, kind and compassionate man. He always had a joke, a smile, or a tear. He loved life and he embraced it. Ron always had a plan, a dream and an idea. He was never an idle man. He mastered anything he attempted to do. He was compassionate about anything he set his mind to. He was extremely intelligent and extremely artistic. From computer programming, to sculpting, to his most gifted skill of all, jewelry making.
His love for animals was his strongest suit. His pets were his best friends. Ron was a loving friend, brother and uncle. He truly never met a stranger. He was never anything that he was not. He always said what he thought. He was wise. A kinder soul-you would never meet.
Ron's wishes were to be cremated and entered into rest with John, at St. Gregory's Episcopal Church in Boca Raton, Florida. He will be joined by his loving pets, Scampi and Truffles.
Any memorial contributions can be made to the Clinton Animal Shelter. Ron would have liked this.
The following is a poem Ron wrote that was inspired by the Eternal Now sign pendent he created.
The Eternal Now
This magic moving moment
that carries us along
beats out the steady rhythm
of a never ending song.
At the balance point of all that was
and all that will ever be
lies the heartbeat of existence
that goes on endlessly.
Time is the rhythm of the universe,
the music of the spheres.
It's the very thing that brings us life
and is measured out in years.
Life's moments, in the constant stream,
flow by relentlessly.
Each one that comes brings something new
then sets in history.
The present time is all I have,
just this very moment-NOW.
And as it comes it also goes
yet leaves me here somehow.
I try to hold each moment dear
and make it count for me.
Then with the last, I'll take them all,
and join eternity.
