Roger W. Hansen (March 30, 1934-September 30, 2026)
HUMBLE GREATNESS PERSONIFIED
Who left home at 16 with a bum hand to make his way in the world? Dad did. Who winced when he spoke of his10-year polio hospital experience, from age 2 to 12, yet did not blame the doctors who further mangled his affected hand trying to fix it? Dad did. Who earned his GED and several Cessna certifications while working his way through life at a very young age? Dad did. Who was entitled to disability for life but left that for "those who really need it" because he could figure out how to make his own way? Dad did. Who was rejected from the armed forces because of his disability so, instead, flew Grumman Ag Cats and rebuilt airplanes? Dad did. Who moved to an old WWII airport in "The Middle of Nowhere" (Ainsworth) Nebraska to build an aviation business with no one's help? Dad did. Who led his wife there with her full support because she thought "it was an adventure"? Dad did. Who farmed 1,200 acres with 6-row equipment? Dad did. Who built his own cattle herd from just one? Dad did. Who bought his own semi tractor in his 60s and hauled steel across the United States? Dad did. Who started buying and rehabbing houses at age 65? Dad did. Who started Tumbleweed Trading Post (Johnstown, NE) in his 60s, having fun going to auctions and selling his finds to others?
Dad did. Who had a "his garden" vs. "her garden" competition every year with his wife? Dad did. Who said, "let me put the pencil to the paper" when faced with a decision? Dad did. Who hoped his whole life for a surprise $1MM gift? Dad did. Who moved forward even when things got hard? Dad did? Who helped many people along the way, even if it cost him in the end? Dad did. Who helped his wife lead his kids to Jesus? Dad did. Who loved his Kitty Kat the best he could? Dad did. Who remained a patriot to the end? Dad did. Who delighted in his Punkins, Pickle and Button? Dad did. Who loved his wife, his kids, his son-in-law, and his grandkids well? Dad did. Who passed away in Warrensburg in the presence of (what he always claimed) his two best accomplishments (his daughters)? Dad did. Who ran into the arms of Jesus after 92 years with us? Dad DID! Born March 30, 1934 (Pipestone, MN) to Tillie and Raymond Hansen. He is survived by his wife (of 64 years) Marjorie; daughters Cinndy Plummer and Tricia Hansen-Horn (Adam); grandchildren Cole Plummer (Joey), Jarres Plummer (Sarah), Cameron Horn (Kirsten), Marisa Plummer, Ashleigh Knapp (Kenny), and Raegan Horn; 3 great grandchildren; brother Randy and sister Berna; and many nieces and nephews dear to his heart. He was preceded in death by his sister Delores, brothers Jim and Junior, and his parents. Roger W. Hansen - husband, father, grandfather, son, friend - lived humbly but with greatness. We are forever grateful. He lived what he said: "I need to act in ways that let
me be able to look myself in the mirror." We will forever miss him.
