Bob was born March 26, 1950 to Robert W and Mary V (Stockdall) Hawkins, in Clinton, MO. He was the oldest of six children. Bob started First grade at Turner School, near Tightwad. He then attended Clinton schools, where he graduated from Clinton High School. Bob's Dad taught him and his siblings the responsibility of hard work and the enjoyment of the great outdoors. He loved to fish, hunt and just walking through the timber. He also liked to play pool. As a child, he threw newspapers from his bicycle and mowed yards. He also helped his Dad, who was foreman at Anderson's Chicken Company. While in High School, he started working at Clearfield Cheese Company in Clinton. Later he worked at The International Shoe Factory in Windsor, then went back to Clearfield Cheese.
On July 20, 1969, Bob married Linda Fantz, in the Calhoun United Methodist Church. After living in Clinton for a few months, they moved to Calhoun to make their home. Their precious daughter, Lynetta was born on April 17, 1970. A few months later, he went to work for Dunning Furniture, a longtime establishment in Clinton. He became an accomplished salesman, and before long he became the Store Manager. On his 21 st Birthday, March 26, 1971, their second precious daughter, Roberta, was born. Bob played baseball and other outside games, with the girls, as well as teaching them to hunt, fish and find mushrooms.
Bob and his Dad bought big trucks and did custom hay hauling. They worked day and night for their families. After they sold their trucks, the farmers started baling the large hay bales. After seven years, at the furniture store, Bob struck out to start a new career as an Insurance Agent. He was an agent for Farmers Insurance Group for 42 years, retiring June 30, 2019.
In the earlier years of their marriage, Bob rode motorcycles, starting with dirt bikes and graduating from small CC's, of different brands. It was a treat, for Lynetta & Roberta to take turns riding with Daddy. When the girls got older, Bob and Linda rode their chopped out, 750 Honda out east to Myrtle Beach. The girls rode with Grandpa and Grandma in the camper.
Bob sold the motorcycle, so he and Linda could concentrate on the girl's school activities, etc. Bob coached their Pee Wee Basketball team. Bob and Linda were active in the PTA, PTO and Booster Club. All through Junior High and High School, Bob only missed one of their Basketball games. After the girls were out of high school, Bob bought the 1983 Harley-Davidson Shovelhead, from Yeager's in Sedalia, to cure his itch to ride again. Bob and Linda were part of the group that formed The Harley Owners Group Chapter in Sedalia. During this time a nephew, Steven, lived with them, to finish High School. They took him to events with them, which was fine, because his parents also rode. Steven was like a son to Bob.
Bob was approached about Freedom of Road Riders®. After joining the Sedalia Local 3 and later forming Local 35 in Clinton, he knew he had found what he was looking for. He loved the USA and "Freedom" in their name spurred him He loved riding his motorcycles, meeting people and working to protect the rights of these motorcyclists. As a Life Member of Freedom of Road Riders®, Bob worked tirelessly for the organization for around 30 years. Bob expected No recognition or even a Thank You, it is just what he wanted to do. He really wasn't done, but God called him home.
