Robert Eddy, born July 1, 1937 to Orville and Agnes Eddy in Flint, MI.

Robert loved it when everyone was having a big time. His light shined the brightest when he was taking young children to Silver Dollar City or to ride the go-carts, or any other fun thing he could think of. He loved pleasing little ones and showing them a fun time. He would take them fishing or on tractor rides around the farm. He loved being in the middle of the family hubbub at Christmas gatherings…and he passed his parents' love of playing games together as a family on to his kids—a tradition we carry on to this day. He loved telling stories and of course, eating good food. Lots of good food. He was fond of declaring that he knew food was meant to preserve life—not to take it. But that didn't generally stop him from having a little dessert at the end of a holiday dinner. Or any dinner.

Robert liked to build things and to engineer solutions to various every-day needs around the farm. He was creative and inventive with his tools…and he liked to be able to figure things out. How they worked, how they ran, why they didn't, and what were the options for making things go again. He attended the General Motors Institute, to obtain certification as a Tool & Die maker, then worked for nearly 10 years at GM in Flint before moving his young family to Missouri in 1964. He "commuted" between Flint and Clinton for about a year before getting a job as a mechanic at KCP&L. He later bid a Machinist position from which he retired after 30 years at the Montrose station. After retirement he was asked by Westinghouse's Engineer to go to Pennsylvania to take the test for a Field Machinist on Turbine repairs but his devotion to his wife kept him home.

Robert also liked to be the one to load the car for family vacations. His kids would have everything packed and loaded and ready to go except for a few things that wouldn't fit, which we figured probably weren't important anyway—and he took every single item out of the trunk and put them back in to his own liking. And when he was done, everything somehow fit.

As a dad he valued education and paid the college tuition for all of his kids who decided to go to college. He was the parent to brag-up our grades and other accomplishments.

When his wife Wanda got sick shortly after he retired, Robert shifted gracefully from the one being taken care of to the one who gave care. He did an excellent job of taking care of his wife through two liver transplants and all the accompanying trips to the doctors, medications, and diet considerations. When she was in the hospital on various visits, he kept such close track of her meals, medications, and procedures, the nursing staff would often ask him where she was on her prescribed protocols of treatment, medications, meals, etc. He would know what she had taken with and without food. What she ate. How long she had slept. He was also careful to guard her energy and her time to be sure she was not over-taxed by the many concerned family and friends who wanted to visit and wish her well. He did an excellent job of keeping track of her entire experience in the hospital and at home, and she grew to depend on him in ways neither of them would have predicted prior to her illness.

Robert loved bluegrass music. He was an enthusiastic member of the Golden Valley Bluegrass association for many years. He enjoyed the camaraderie of the association as much as he enjoyed the music. Johnny Cash was one of his favorites.

Robert was a life-long member of the Church of Christ, Temple Lot, beginning in his early twenties, he served as a Youth Leader, then the pastor of the Flint Local, and in the capacity of Elder for many years.

Robert is preceded in death by his Wife, Wanda Jo Eddy, brother Ronald Eddy, and his parents. He is survived by two Sister Patricia Burmeister, and Audrey Ex; his sons Perry Eddy, Son Brian Eddy and wife Denise, and Timothy Eddy; one daughter Sharron Gough and husband JL. Six grandchildren: Ethan, Jake, Christy, Ash, Leah & Elijah, two great-grand-daughters—Marley and Millie, and many nieces and nephews.
