Penny was born in 1956. Known to many as Phoenix, she most affectionately answered to Penny, a name that reflected both her strength and her warmth.

Penny lived a life full of love, resilience, and fierce determination. Her fiery spirit, like the mythical phoenix she was so aptly nicknamed after, shone brightly even in the face of adversity. As a devoted mother, grandmother, beloved friend, and compassionate caregiver, Penny touched the lives of all who knew her with her deep empathy and tireless devotion.

For over 25 years, Penny worked in caregiving, not simply as a job, but as a calling. She brought comfort, dignity, and joy to those she served, never wavering in her mission to make life a little easier, a little brighter, for those around her. She carried that same unwavering love and care into her role as a mother, raising her children with strength, sacrifice, and a heart overflowing with unconditional love.

Penny's intuition was legendary, and she never hesitated to remind you with her signature phrase, "I told ya so, you never listen to your mama." Her humor was honest, her advice unfiltered, and her love unmistakable. She found beauty in the simple things, especially in flowers, which seemed to bloom just a little more vibrantly under her care. Her garden was a reflection of her soul: wild, beautiful, and full of life.

Penny is survived by her loving children: Chris (Erin) Schmitz of Independence, Missouri, Kelley Schmitz of Raytown, Missouri, and Eric (Melissa) Schmitz of Clinton, Missouri. She was the proud grandmother to Donovan Anderson, Elliott Garrison, Fischer Schmitz, Stetson Schmitz, and Bryndle Smith, each of whom brought her endless joy and pride.

She was preceded in death by her dear mother and her beloved aunt, Margaret Muller/Tyme, who no doubt welcomed her home with open arms.

As we say goodbye, we remember Penny not just for the life she lived, but for the love she gave so freely. Her presence was a gift, her memory a blessing, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

Rest easy, Penny. Your light, your laughter, and your love will never be forgotten.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.
