Jun 12, 1927 — Jan 8, 2015
Ola Pearl (Kenney) Jones, 87, passed away January 8, 2015 at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Monday, January 12, 2015 at the Vansant-Mills Chapel, Clinton, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 P.M. Sunday, January 11, 2015 also at the Chapel. Interment will be in Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, Missouri. Fond memories and condolences can be left online at www.vansant-millsfuneralhome.com .
Ola was born to Robert Ray Kenney and Lena Frances Oglesby on June 12, 1927, in Appleton City, Missouri. She moved to Clinton at a young age and met her life-long best friend of 79 years, Mary (Boyd) Robbins in third grade. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1945.
Ola worked at Union State Bank (in the current Glasscock Jewelry location) from high school until around 1958. She married Stanley Eugene Jones on July 11, 1954 shortly after he was discharged from the U.S. Navy. In following years, two children were born to this union - a son, Kenney, and a daughter, Susan.
After Stanley completed electrical/refrigeration trade school training in Chicago, Stanley worked for McDowell and Johns and, later, Stanley and Ola started their own business – Jones Refrigeration and Electric – out of their home. Ola worked as the bookkeeper/office manager for the family business and bookkeeper for Stanley's share of the family farm east of Clinton, while raising her children. After Stanley's death, Ola continued to help with the bookkeeping as a co-owner of the new farm operation, Jones Homestead Farms LLC.
Ola enjoyed reading, cooking, painting, and traveling. In the last 9 years Ola traveled with Susan, Greg and MacKenzie on family vacations. Ola visited Jamaica; Puerto Rico; St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands; Maui, Hawaii; St. Croix, US Virgin Islands; Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia; Yellowstone National Park; Key West, Florida; Cape Canaveral, Florida, St. Pete's Beach, Florida; Orlando, Florida, and finally Kona, Hawaii in 2014. Ola and her family survived two hurricanes and one earthquake on their last travel adventure. Ola was also immortalized as the "Deviled Egg Lady" when she was awarded a special plaque in the early years of the CHS Booster Club. She was known for providing dozens of deviled eggs to the Hospitality Lounge every night of the CHS Invitational Basketball Tournament for many years. Ola had a special love for dogs and children and enjoyed spoiling her dogs, grandkids and her most recent "grand-dog" Oreo.
She is survived by one daughter, Susan Jones-Hard and husband, Greg Hard of Clinton; one brother Bob Kenney and wife Dorothy Kenney, Clinton; daughter-in-law, Penny Lindsey, Clinton; four granddaughters, Amanda Stunz and husband Rick, Clinton; Katrina Jones, Boulder, Colorado; MacKenzie Hard, Clinton; and Sarah Lindsey, Clinton; two step-grandchildren, Stephanie (Hard) Lester and Brian Hard both of Aurora, Colorado; four great grandchildren, Kendrick Stunz and Charlie Stunz of Clinton; and Elizabeth Hearn and Ethan Lester of Aurora, Colorado… as well as a number of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Ola was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Stanley, in 2004; her son, Kenney, in 1994; her brothers, Forest Kenney in 1976; Ivan Kenney in 1977, and Francis Kenney in 1991; her sisters, Elvorene Phillips in 2002 and Ruby Jones in 1991; and one infant sister in 1935.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Jones Family Foundation to establish a CHS Scholarship or to Clinton Animal Rescue Endeavor (CARE) and may be left in care of the funeral home.
