Warsaw
Melissa Monique Hensley (49) passed away on March 7th 2025 at her home in Warsaw, MO. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 21, 2025 at the Vansant-Mills Chapel in Clinton with visitation from 1:00-2:00 PM prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Clinton Animal Rescue Endeavor (C.A.R.E.) and may be left in care of the funeral home.
She was born on August 6th 1975 at Saint Joesph Hospital in Kansas City MO to parents George Barrett and Laura Register. Melissa was a fierce lover and protector of her friends and family, an animal lover, and she loved her hobbies of making crafts and watching her nightly TV shows.
Melissa went to school in Grandview MO and graduated from Grandview High in the class of 1993. In her early 20's she met her future husband, Charles Hensley, and they went on to have their first son together (Curtis) in the summer of 1998. Her and Charles got married on November 8th 2003.
A few years later the family moved from the Kansas City area to the small town of Leeton MO, and in 2009 found out their second child was on the way. However, unfortunately on September 30th 2009 her second son (Charlie) was stillborn. Late in the Spring of 2015, Curtis's best friend Wez moved in with the family and was welcomed with open arms and unofficially adopted by them.
In 2016, Melissa and Charles separated and were later officially divorced in 2024, though they remained very close friends. After their separation, Melissa moved around frequently, living with family and friends with a notable move to Hawaii for a short time, until finally finding and purchasing her current home in Warsaw MO where she lived with Wez.
She was proceeded in death by grandparents Lola and Glen Barrett (Paternal) and Ellie and Jesse Register (Maternal); Parents George Barrett, Laura (Register) Keeton, and stepfather Curtis Keeton; 1 Aunt Jan Harrison and 3 uncles Steve Barrett, Rick Register and Jerry Harrison; Son Charles (Charlie) Hensley; and her unnamed Grandson from Curtis and Megan.
She is survived by 2 sons Curtis Hensley (Megan) of Clinton MO and Wezilee Johnson of Warsaw MO; brother Jesse Barrett (Mandy) of Windsor MO; sister Athena Barrett of Kansas City KS; nephews Jesse Barrett Jr of Higginsville MO, Zane Elwell of Windsor MO, Mario Calderon, Josue Torres, Enrique Calderon and Louis Barrett of Kansas City KS; Ex husband and close friend Charles E Hensley III of Leeton MO; Step Mother Marcia Duffey of Kansas City MO; Aunt Linda McAdams(Larry) of West Plains MO; Uncles Jimmy Harrison of Arkansas, Mike Harrison of Raymore MO, Randy Register(Debbie) of Warsaw MO; many cousins; and her beloved dog Kola.
She will be missed, but she is in a much better place now with her son, grandson, and many other beloved family members that she has dearly missed.
