Obituary

Marjorie Marie Cox, 81, of Clinton, MO died November 20, 2013. Marjorie was born December 2, 1931 to James Everett Conyers and May Ellen (Brady) Conyers in Sprague, MO. Her parents ran a business called "Cozy Corner" in Sprague and this is where she lived during her childhood.

She attended high school in Rich Hill, MO. Upon graduation, she attended Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, MO. After college, she returned to Sprague and taught school for two years.

On April 29, 1950, she married Robert William (Bill) Cox. After moving to Kansas City, they built their first home and had two children, Robert and Brenda. In 1955, Marjorie attended Cosmetology School.

Due to Bill's employment with KCP&L, they moved to Clinton, MO in 1958. Later, they built a house together which included Marjorie's place of business, "Margie's Beauty Shop."

In 1975, they built a house at Pomme de Terre Lake that would eventually become their retirement home. They lived there for five years with their children and grandchildren visiting as much as possible to enjoy time on the lake as a family. Marjorie and Bill loved to dance. On many occasions, people would clear the dance floor just to watch them. During their retirement years, they enjoyed traveling in their motor home and vacationing in Texas during the winter months. In 1990, due to Bill's health, they decided to return to Clinton to be closer to their family. Bill had many health issues and Marjorie was a very compassionate caregiver to her husband for several years.

Marjorie loved life and had a radiant smile. She was very family-oriented and devoted much of her time to her children and grandchildren.

Marjorie was a member of the First Christian Church. Survivors include her son Robert L. Cox and wife Norie, daughter Brenda S. Markham and husband Ron. Four grandchildren: Steve Markham and wife Lori, Jason Markham and wife Amanda, Jennifer Sewell and husband Jon, and Matt Cox and wife Stephani, all of Clinton. Five great-grandchildren: Ben and Addison Markham, Britany and Alex Markham, and Hayden Sewell.

Preceding her in death were her parents, infant daughter Carol Ann, sister Juanita Gorden and her husband Bill Cox.
