Marion E. Downing, age 87, of Clinton passed away Sunday, July 22, 2012 in Independence, Missouri. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Clinton Christian Church, Clinton, Missouri with interment in Englewood Cemetery, Clinton. Visitation will be 11:00-1:00 Thursday at the church. Family suggests contributions to the Samaritan Center in Clinton or the Clinton Senior Center and may be left at Vansant-Mills Funeral Home. Marion was born July 21, 1925, the son of Elba and Anna (Faulkner) Downing in Lexington, Missouri.
He served in the U. S. Navy during W.W. II. He was a senior supervisor for Lake City before he retired. He was a member of the Clinton Christian Church where he served as an Elder. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 2513 in Warrensburg, Missouri; a scouter for 30 plus years where he was a sachem in the tribe of Mic-O-Say and founder of Troop 513 in Warrensburg, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty and two sisters, Erma Gauchat and Fern Lamb.

Survivors include three sons, Don Downing of Kansas City, Missouri, Ray Downing of Ozark, Missouri and David Downing of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; one brother, Bill Downing of Leeton, Missouri; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren and his companion, Marjorie Yorke of Independence, Missouri.
