Jimmie Ray Burks was born in Pomona, California on June 26 th , 1945. He passed away suddenly at his Missouri home on March 29 th , 2019. Growing up, he lived in 13 states but spent much of his life in Missouri living with his Grandmother in Rogersville, MO and also with his brother's family while his father welded missile silos. Jim moved with his dad to Mingo, IA where they ran a filling station with a small restaurant. Jim's specialty was his chocolate malts with an egg.
Jim connected with machinery and anything on wheels. He loved riding motorcycles and was a Harley-Davidson man at heart. Jim and his wife, Casey, took several wonderful motorcycle vacations. He loved cars; especially 1950's era. His first car was one found in a barn that had been painted with a broom.
He loved fishing for crappie and his baked crappie fillets were heavenly. Jim loved cooking and trying new gourmet recipes he'd see fixed on a cooking show. Jim's ribs, chili, salmon and pasta dishes were also special gifts for family and friends.
Jim enjoyed woodworking and went to special sawmills to get extra thick oak to make the huge family dining table.
Jim loved spending time with his family. For many years, he and Casey hosted their kids and grandkids on their boat, the Dragonfly. Jim's idea to use the Dragonfly as a camper with the grandkids became a fall tradition for many years.
Jim drove heavy construction equipment, helping build a section of I35 near Ames, IA.
He worked at a Firestone store fixing and changing tires.
For 32 years, Jim worked as a parts coordinator at Sundstrand (now Danfoss) in Ames, IA. After retirement in 2008, he finally had time to have dogs and he loved his Jack Russells. In 2010, Jim and Casey returned to Missouri.
Jim gave his life to Jesus. He and Casey are members of the Windsor Methodist Church and Jim looked forward to attending Pastor Peggy's sermons
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Frances June (Casey) Burks; children Tad Burks (Ames, IA), Ward Wehrman (Des Moines, IA), Lynette Burks (Ankeny, IA), Wendy (Ray) Ringgenberg (Cambridge, IA); grandchildren Steven (Shelby) Burks, Frances Ringgenberg, Jackson Ringgenberg, Winter Ringgenberg; great grandson Easton Burks; brother, Layman Cornelison (LaVerna), nephews Charles (Charlie) and Lenny Burks, niece Patty Brown.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Burks, mother Agnes Breedlove, brothers Charles Burks, Kenneth Burks, Rex Cornelison, and his sister, DoAnne Imajean Buckner.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home.
