Obituary

Jean is survived by his wife, Florence Woolcott Booth, his children, Jenny Lee Covin (Walter), Terence Booth (Dawn), Ann Booth (Ken Sapp), his granddaughter, Julie Ratner (Joe) and three great granddaughters, Zehavah, Ellianah, and Adinah Ratner. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane Nordgren Booth, and grandson, Christopher Todd Booth.

Jean was born in Clinton, Missouri and graduated valedictorian of his class at Clinton High School in 1936. Following his graduation from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri in 1940, he enlisted in the Navy and served in the Pacific during WWII. After the war, he joined the family business (Booth Hatchery and Colonial Poultry Farms) managing hatcheries in Shenandoah, Iowa; Lamar, Colorado; and Clinton, Missouri. When the business closed, he obtained a master's degree from the University of Central Missouri and became a high school teacher in Lowry City, at Sherwood HS, and in Clinton. He was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church. He belonged to the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, Rotary International, and The Commemorative Air Force.

Jean was a legendary story teller! He told about people he loved and respected including his parents, Rex and Inez Booth, his brother, Dick Booth, sister, Betty Cooper, and brother-in-law, Neal Cooper. Some Clintonians may know this cast of characters who were often featured in Jean's tales: Lawrence Brown, Joe Wolf, Herb Brown, the Mitchem brothers, Raymond Dodd, Joe Daurghety, Bert Chrisman , Cal Kemper, Ernest Fuel, Archie Childers, Puny White, John Fellhauer, and many more. Jean's students had a special place in his heart and in his stories. He would want everyone to know his boyhood pet, Danny Dog, was the smartest dog on earth. Jean's stories memorialized many friends including some who died over 80 years ago; those families might be pleased to know their loved ones' names live on in Booth family collection of Daddy Tales.

Our father loved his family and his home town. He worked for the betterment of the community, and fought for what he believed was right. Our home was filled by Dad's booming laughter and his love.
Life with our Dad was a grand adventure. Now, he is on a new and more beautiful adventure where we are certain he will add many new chapters to the Daddy Tales.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The First Presbyterian Church, the Commemorative Air Force, The Henry County Museum, the National Federation of the Blind or the charity of your choice.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 19, 2014, at the First Presbyterian Church of Clinton, Missouri, 220 East Franklin Street.
