He was born to the late Earl and Edna (Landreth) Lightfoot, July 25, 1935, in Dewitt, MO.  Jake, as known to many, graduated from Hale High School in 1953. After graduation he worked for Hallmark Cards on the printing press.   He served six years in the Army National Guard.  Jake and Mary Beth (Braden) were married July 27, 1957, and lived in Kansas City, MO for forty-nine years before retiring to Clinton, MO in 2006.

Jake began working at the Kansas City Police Department in 1962, during his career he worked in Patrol, Vice, The Tactical Response Team, The Metro Squad, Homicide and obtained the rank of Sergeant.  He was one of the original members of the SWAT team.  Jake retired after 30 years on the force, and spent the next ten years working as a civilian in the TSO Unit of KCPD.

He was a role model for both of his children, teaching his daughter early on about his love for the outdoors.  He was active in Boy Scouts with his son and was Scoutmaster of Troop 531. He is a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say and his tribal name is Warrior Lone Gliding Blackhawk.

Jake was a true outdoorsman, which led him into boating, fishing and a passion for fly tying and fly fishing with his friends at Tri-Lakes Fly Fishers.  His love for hunting and shooting was also very strong from handguns to shotguns (from his days at the Kansas City Police department).  His true craftsman skills led him into building black powder rifles and pistols with his friends at Fort Osage Muzzle Loaders and Bear Creek Trading Company.

Jake loved to spend time with his family and especially enjoyed spoiling all of his grandchildren.  He spent countless hours boating, camping and teaching them how to enjoy the outdoors, thinking he was the top dog in all aspects of the outdoor life but everyone knew Grandma was the one that kept things all together.

Jake is survived by his wife, Mary Beth; brothers Bill and Gary; sister Helen (Walker); daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Bob Richter of Grandview, MO; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Christy Lightfoot of Archie, MO; grandchildren, Johnathon (Lauren) Wulff, Sarah (John) Peterman, Courtney Richter (JP Meiners), Victoria Lightfoot, Isabelle Lightfoot; great grand-children, Aja, Hunter, Kathryn, Hayden, John Paul, Conner, Maggie and Paige; and many nieces and nephews.

Jake was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Edna; brothers Harold and Raymond, sisters Fern (Barlow) and Bonnie (Dennis), and grand daughter, Michelle (Wulff).

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, Missouri.
