Hugh was born on December 21, 1937, the youngest son of Floyd Logan Sperry Sr. and Effie Carolina Julian-Sperry.
He was raised on the family farm south of Clinton, Missouri, where he developed a lifelong appreciation for agriculture, family, hard work, and the land. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1955 and went on to attend the University of Missouri, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture.
Hugh proudly served in the United States Navy Reserves, receiving an honorable discharge in 1963.
Hugh first married Verna Maxine Lewis, and together they were blessed with four children: David Linn, Zoe Ann, Natalie Carolina, and Sarah Jane. In 1975, Hugh married Janice Montgomery, and her sons, Randy (Jymme) Montgomery and Dennis (Dee) Montgomery, became part of the family. Together, they made their home in Holden, Missouri, where Hugh continued to build a life centered around family and community.
In 2000, Hugh returned to the family farm in Leeton, Missouri, bringing him back to the land that had been such an important part of his life.
Throughout his career, Hugh remained connected to agriculture and public service. He taught agriculture at Fatima High School in Westphalia, Missouri, later retired from the Missouri Department of Transportation, and went on to own and operate Anchor Land Realty in Holden, Missouri.
Hugh was a man who valued family, faith, service, and community. He was a member of Quarles Baptist Church and was a longtime member of Masonic Lodge No. 548. He was recently honored for his 50 years of Masonic membership and was also a member of Eastern Star. His commitment to these organizations reflected the importance he placed on fellowship, service, and the people around him.
Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Effie Sperry; his brothers, Bill, Tom, and Floyd Jr. Sperry; his wife, Janice Montgomery-Sperry; his son, David Sperry; his grandson, Derek Brown; and son-in-law Kenny Peterman.

Hugh's life was rooted in family, faith, agriculture, service, and the Missouri communities he called home. His legacy will live on through the family he loved, the lives he touched, and the land that remained an important part of his story throughout his life.
Arrangments are under the direction of Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, Missouri.
