Harold Eugene Weter was born on November 24th, 1933 in Pollock, Missouri, the oldest son of Harold and Phyllis Weter. He married Glenda Ellison Compton on June 16th, 1988 and they were blessed as they enjoyed their lives together for the next 25 years.
His early education consisted of one room school houses and he would often talk about riding his horse to and from school. Gene graduated from Milan High School in Milan, Missouri in 1951. He loved sports, he especially enjoyed running track and playing baseball in high school and even playing as an adult. Gene accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at the age of 19 and always said his only regret was that he didn't to it sooner.
After high school Gene worked on the family farm until he was called on by his country to serve in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Gene was discharged from the Navy in 1957 and worked on the family farm alongside his brother, Theadore, during what he would call the greatest job he ever had. In 1970 Gene moved to Clinton, Missouri to manage Good Year Tire and Rubber. During this time he had the privilege of meeting Charlie Diehl and soon made the move to manage Diehl Tire Company. In 1984 Gene and his business partner, Jim Stone, purchased Diehl Tire Company which they owned and operated for many years. In 1993, they opened W&S Door Company which they have successfully managed to this day.
Gene was an active member of First Baptist Church and The Promise Keepers Group. He loved his church family and especially the Lighthouse Sunday School Class that played such an important role in his life. Gene was also a member of the Sunrise Optimist Club, The Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce, The Elks Lodge and Bear Creek Lodge. Gene loved to go four-wheeling with his friends, The Lost Trail Hogs. He also enjoyed the fellowship of his Saturday morning coffee group.
