Obituary

Glenn Eugene McVey was born on August 25, 1935 in Brownington, Missouri to Eunice Elizabeth Hyden McVey and Robert Glenn McVey. He attended grade school in Brownington and high school in Deepwater. His mother often told people that he was so smart they moved him up a grade in school and he graduated with the class of 1952. After that he attended college at Warrensburg and graduated from Central Missouri State. Going to college in those days was especially hard financially. Several times he had to quit school and find employment to save up enough to go back and finish school. He even had to hitchhike a ride back and forth to Warrensburg at times. It was during this time that he married Marilyn June Dunning and to this union were born Carla Jo McVey and Kevin McVey. He at first taught school in Deepwater from 1959 to 1962. He then joined the Missouri National Guard and made a lifelong commitment. There was a lot of moving and traveling for training in Ft. Bliss and El Paso, Texas. They also lived in Riverside, Pleasant Hill, Holden, and Columbia, Missouri. He was employed as a launching area supervisor, a position that carried many responsibilities. Back in the 60's many cities across the nation had Air Defense Sites positioned around them that were operated by National Guard Units. These sites were operated, armed and manned with missiles around the clock. In 1969 he took a new position and relocated to Columbia and became the Administrative
Officer for the Missouri Army National Guard. In 1985 he took a job with the National Guard Headquarters in Jefferson City and took over the position as supervisor of the office of personnel. In 1989 after 33 years of Federal and Military service, Lt. Colonel McVey retired. But a year later, in 1990, he went back to Jefferson City as a state employee and initiated the Retirement Services Office and worked there for an additional 13 years before retiring for good in 2003. His area of expertise was assisting families with their National Guard entitlements from the non-regular military retirement system. He traveled many miles and met with many widows and families to ensure they received what they were entitled to from veterans benefits.

In 2005 Glenn moved back to Clinton and married Norma Chamber on February 25, 2006 who survives of the home. He so enjoyed being back to Clinton and living closer to his children and grandchildren.
Even though Glenn suffered with a heart condition for many years,he had a heart of gold. He was always helping someone any way he could whether it was a stranger, friend or family. He always gave you his opinion on everything too whether you wanted it or not.

Glenn's hardest times of his life was losing his brother Carl Donald and his infant grandson Brady. Glenn had children, step children, grandchildren and step grandchildren. He loved them all and still attended many of their sporting events and birthday parties.

After moving to Clinton, Glenn became a faithful member of Deepwater Baptist Church. During the last year of his life, knowing his days were numbered, he had made peace with God and was so very proud of his family. He was preparing for his eternal home.

He is survived by his wife Norma; daughter and son-in-law Carla and Donald Goth; son Kevin McVey; step daughter Sheri Rook and husband Dan; step daughter-in-law Marilyn Chambers; grandson Brandon Goth and wife Erin; granddaughter Ashley Chiles and husband Jeremy; granddaughter Sylvia "Lucy" Caldwell; grandson Rick Chambers and wife Heather; granddaughter Teri Martin; great grandchildren, Makenna Goth, Payton Goth, Hallie Chiles, Olivia Chiles, Kinzer Chambers, Karlie Chambers, Axton Martin, and also a great grandson, Bradyn Chiles due to be born in December.
