Obituary

Glen Melvin "Billy" Jones, youngest son of Robert Lee Jones and Maude Ethel Dannatt Jones was born July 1, 1924, 21/2 miles south of Calhoun, Missouri, one of 8 children. One brother Louis Dale died at 5 months of age.

In 1947, he left the farm to attend a 6 month auctioneer course at the Reppert School of Auctioneering, in Decatur, Indiana. He graduated out of a class of261 students. Billy was later selected by one of his teachers and wife, Mr. & Mrs. C.B. Drake of Decatur, Illinois, to be auctioneer at the auction house they owned.

In September 1947, while at the Decatur Auto Auction, he was introduced by his former boss, Mrs. Leona Drake, to his wife to be, Betty Elizabeth Radcliff of Tuscola, Illinois. Billy and Betty were united in marriage March 28, 1948 at the Cartwright Methodist Church in Tuscola, Illinois. To this union, two daughters and one son were born.

In 1951, Billy and Betty decided to leave Illinois and move back to Missouri. They purchased a farm one mile west of Calhoun, Missouri on 52 Hwy, where they resided for 47 years.

Billy surrendered his life to Christ at an early age of 13, at a Revival Meeting at Calhoun Baptist Church. Later he was ordained as a deacon on April 25, 1982. Billy served as Assistant Sunday School teacher for 15 years and served as song leader for 15 years in Sunday School and five years for the church.

Billy and Betty rejoice that each of their three children, as well as sons and daughter in law have named Christ as their personal Savior and today serve in various capacities in their respective churches. They strongly believe in the power of prayer and how difficulty it would be to rear children properly without Christ at the center of their lives. They believe that parents today should teach their children to work and save, regardless of their financial status.

Looking back, Billy says he sees now that neither Christ nor the Bible ever failed him. Though he may have been disobedient at times in his life, he knows that because of his faithfulness, he is forgiven.

Billy is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Jones, his son Gary Lynn and wife Kelly of Clinton, their sons Anthony and Bradley of Kansas City, Mo; Michelle "Mickey" Roberts and husband Gary of Butler, daughter Tonja Roberts of Branson, Mo. their son Jason Roberts and his wife Amber & daughters Casey and Morgan, and son Brian ; Carol Lee and husband Bill of Creighton, Missouri, their sons Kyle and Travis, Creighton, Mo., Brian Turner of Harrisonville, and daughter Lynie Wright, children Billie, Tiffany and Miranda of Cassville, Mo. He also leaves one brother, Veryl Lee of Clinton, Missouri and several nieces and great nieces, nephews and many friends.

Preceding him in death were four sisters Miss Ethlyn Jones, Mrs. R.E. (Ada) Searcy, Mrs. Elsie (Buddy) Cooper, Mrs. (Nadine) Ward, and one brother Floyd Jones.
