Georgia the only daughter of Herbert G and Marjorie Pierce Yates arrived in Kansas City on November 30, 1939, just in time for her father's 18th birthday. In her father & #39;s eyes, it was the best birthday gift ever!  Growing up, she lived in Kansas City, New York, Atlanta, and Omaha. Of all those places, Kansas City was the best because her cousins/best friends lived there. In 1951, after returning to Kansas City, Georgia fell quickly for her new neighbor Ward, a blonde haired, blue-eyed teenager who had just moved into the neighborhood. Though her father's job forced her family to move frequently, separating the young couple, distance could not dim their feelings; Ward was out of sight but never out of mind. The
infatuation endured wherever life took her. In 1956, with a copy of "Young Love" by Sonny James, Ward traveled to New York City by train to ask for her hand in marriage.  On Saturday, September 7, 1957, with $2.00 in his pocket Ward W Attebery and Georgia were married at Unity Village in Lee's Summit, Missouri beginning a lifelong union that lasted until Ward's passing in 2017. In 1959, Georgia became a big sister when her family welcomed Ward's three amazing brothers: Paul Woodson, Robert Woodson Yates, and Micheal Woodson Yates. That spring, Georgia and her mother traveled to Wetzel Hospital in Clinton to visit the boys' mother, Joan, who was terminally ill with cancer. Recognizing her time was short, they asked Joan if the boys could spend the summer with the Yates family in Kansas City and promised to bring them to visit often. Comforted that her sons would be well cared for, Joan agreed and passed away shortly after. From that moment on, Ward's brothers officially became Georgia's brothers. The boys soon started school in Kansas City, where young Mike amused everyone by telling people that his brother was married to his sister and they had a baby. How do you capture a lifetime of love in just a few words? Georgia lived by one simple truth: her family was her entire world, and every choice she made reflected that deep, unwavering devotion. Her legacy is the unconditional warmth she poured into the lives of those she held closest, teaching her children that the greatest lesson in life is simply to show up for the people you love. Though she and Ward shared many ups and downs over the years, they knew whether a day was good or bad, the true blessing was having
another day to face together.

Georgia was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ward Attebery, brother-in-law David Attebery and nephew Brian Attebery, brother's Paul Woodson, Robert W. Yates and Micheal W. Yates. Georgia leaves a daughter, Kelley Bregel and husband Tom, Lee's Summit; son, Bill Attebery, Platte City; son, James Attebery, Kansas City, Missouri; grandsons, Christopher Bregel, New York City, and Michael Attebery, Odessa; special family friends, Patrick Forsythe, Teresa Hills, and her dearest friend of 60+ years Lavonne Sutton. The family is deeply grateful to Tammy Vaught, whose compassionate in-home care brought comfort, dignity, and joy to Georgia in her final chapter.
