Born on October 29th 1927,  to Mary Elizabeth and Gustaves Honn. He was one of six children, and raised during the hard times of the depression. He was no stranger to hard work. He served in the Army after WWII and was stationed in South Korea. After returning home some time after met and married Helen Mary Webb. Together they had three daughters, Deborah, Patricia and Mary Elizabeth. He worked hard to provide for his family sometimes even working two jobs. But he always found time to watch some sports on tv. He passed on his love of baseball to his youngest daughter, once even making her watch a ( boring) no hitter with him. It was history and you will appreciate it some day.  By the way it was Nolan Ryan, and I do. He had a very dry since of humor, didn't make many jokes but did have a big laugh. We were raised on HeeHaw, Dean Martin comedy roasts, and more of the same.  He once wore a rubber mask and jumped out of the bushes to scare mothers friend Reba. I can remember that laugh he gave to this day.
He retired at the age of 62, he would putter in his garden and unknown to mother go up to the river boat have lunch and gamble just a bit and get home before she got home from work. One day he had to " confess " what he had been doing because he won enough to have his picture taken and put on the wall, also taxes were being taken out. She wasn't sure to be happy he won or put out about him sneaking around having lunch without her.
He once told his son in law after eating some gumbo, " I've nothing to compare it to but it was pretty good " Debbie asked "does Richard realize he got a high compliment?" Ernest NEVER told you it was good, he just ate. Us girls all learned to cook for dad so he could go to his second job. I'm sure he ate some miserable meals.he never complained.  I'll will say we have all improved substantially in our cooking.
After Helen retired they started taking bus tours, it was new adventures for them. Pete would never admit it but he had as much fun as Helen did.
He was not a man that showed love by giving hugs or kisses, but you knew he loved Helen, he never gave expensive gifts but he gave a poinsettia every Christmas with love. He did love his granddaughters Shannon and Caitlin even if he didn't know how to show it. He was a decent, hardworking man, he loved his wife of sixty plus years. He loved his daughters, granddaughters.
