Dorothy Gregory was born in the small southern town of Trask, Missouri, on November 27, 1936 to Gerald and Ena (Trowbridge) Gregory. She and her family remained in this area where she graduated high school in 1954. She worked as a certified nurse aide and medical secretary, in Missouri and various other states until moving back to Missouri in 1975. While in Texas she met and married Harold Lancaster. This marriage ended eventually and no children were born to this union.
In 1955, during her training to be a nurse, she was presented with a badge (Heroism in the Line of Duty) by the Red Cross for her outstanding work during off-duty hours at the time of a recent plane crash in Springfield. While working as a medical secretary at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas, she experienced the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, having seen him in the motorcade and later living through the chaos at the hospital. She moved back to Missouri, thereafter and obtained a Registered Nursing degree. Dorothy retired from nursing in 1999, after 18 years of a nursing career to help care for her elderly parents.
Her favorite hobby was traveling, visiting most of the states in the US and touring Europe. She played the organ at Parks Chapel Baptist Church and later piano at Faith Baptist Church. Another of her past times was going to lunch with her best friend from church Bev Corum. She was an enthusiastic Kansas City Chiefs fan, who rarely missed their games on TV.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Ena Gregory,a sister, Melba and 5 brothers, Jack, James, Marvin, Larry and Herbert Gregory, brother-in-law Louis Denton and two sister-in –laws, Helen Gregory and Katie Gregory.
