Betty was born September 9, 1928 in rural St. Clair County MO, to Wayne and Georgia (Hull) Wilson, the fourth of eleven children. In 1950, she married L.M. (Mark) Butcher of Norris.
Betty was a traditional farm wife, taking care of household and yard tasks, raising a giant garden, canning produce and curing hams, as well as helping as needed in moving or working livestock, and running to town for parts. In 1983, following Marks death, Betty moved to Clinton, where she resided until her passing. She worked at Mary Jane's Fabrics in the 1980's.
Betty was active in 4-H from the time she was 9 throughout the rest of her life. She was a 4-H leader before her own children were born, and long after they were grown. She had a 4-H sewing student, Jade Schmedding , up to the end of her life. She truly enjoyed her time with Jade.
Betty was a long-time member of the Norris Neighborly Extension Club, Red Cross Blood Drive Volunteer, election official, and Henry County Museum tour guide. She was proud of her work at the Museum, and her donation of over 13 gallons of blood. She also was a member of the Clinton United Methodist Church, having formerly been a member and Sunday School teacher of the Norris United Methodist Church.
Betty loved to travel with friends and family, and was always up for a game of pitch. She was an accomplished seamstress, and found much joy in sewing. She was also known as an exceptional cook, and enjoyed cooking for the family, her kids and their friends in her younger years, and her siblings in more recent years. She was an avid reader and instilled in her kids the love of reading.
The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice staff for their care and dedication to Betty's comfort and dignity.
Betty is survived by four children: Marion of Columbia, Mo; Lola Butcher (Andy Cline) of Springfield, Mo; Lutie Butcher (Jim Spellman) of Bolivar, Mo; and Lois (Lyle) East of Clinton, Mo, five grandchildren: Michael, Emily, Cora Beth, Wesley, and Levi, siblings: Pat Green, Sue Bland, Bud Wilson, Nome Hilton, and Peggy Greene. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Georgia (Hull) Wilson, her husband, Leslie (Mark) Butcher, and siblings: Ernest Wilson, Laretta Adema, Jim Wilson, Doug Wilson, and Frances Norvell.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, Missouri.
