Chilhowee

Obituary

Cleo McReynolds, age 95, of Chilhowee, Missouri passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Holden Manor in Holden, Missouri. Cleos' wishes were to be cremated. A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Croix Hospice and can be left in care of the funeral home.

Cleo Collins McReynolds was born on January 2, 1927 to William Lawrence and Mamie Langford Collins in Earlimart, California.  Cleo married James Oliver McReynolds June 10 th , 1950.  They spent 65 years together before he passed away in 2015.

Cleo was an avid gardener who liked to grow tomatoes, green beans and sweet corn.  In addition, Cleo was an excellent seamstress who sewed for her children and grandchildren countless outfits and made much of her own wardrobe – which could not be distinguished from clothing purchased at department stores.  In addition, Cleo painstakingly constructed quilts that won awards at local competitions, a skill she didn't acquire until age 60.

Cleo was a homemaker and a devoted wife and mother. She was happiest when working alongside her husband on the family farm, which included cattle and row cropping.  She raked hay, helped to fix broken machinery, and drove grain trucks to the local farmers cooperative – among many other jobs.

She personally cared for her husband, J.O., for many years as they coped with his ever-advancing stages of Alzheimer's disease.

Cleo was preceded in death by her brothers Ray Collins, Earl Collins, and Jewel Loomis.  Cleo is survived by her three daughters: Julie (Dennis) Brown of Indiana, Jane Rutter of Tennessee, Jacqueline (Mike) Hoppe of the home, 11 grandchildren Jim Brown, Daniel (Carly) Brown, Michael (Deidre) Brown, Sean (Danielle) Brown, Lyndsey Rutter (Adam Lewkowsky), Chelsea (Steve) Amendt, Danielle Collins (Richard Humphrey), Taylor Hoppe, Dr. Laura Hoppe (Edward Stockmann), Blake Hoppe, Christina (Keith) Spinar, nephew Michael Collins of Arizona, and four great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank St. Croix hospice for their care and emotional support during Cleo's final days.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.
