Charles Richard Joy (better known as Chuck) was born September 4, 1938 in Parkersburg, WV to Dorothy (Smith) and Bruce Joy. Chuck was the third child—older siblings include Doris (Pennsylvania), Ernie (Florida) and younger brother Roy.

Chuck married Audrey Lorraine (McCall) on February 28, 1958. To this union three sons were born, Floyd (Debbie), Calhoun; Richard (Susie), Leonard, Texas; and Dale (Lesley), Bonham, Texas. Chuck's sons were his pride and joy—with each he had a special relationship.

Spending time with horses, mules, and hunting critters, along with being in the great outdoors were some of Chuck's favorite things in life besides being with his family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren—Jeremy Joy (Luke and Harley), Chris Joy (McKenize), Andy Joy (Jayden, Joselyn, Justine), Jonathan Joy (Samuel), Stefanie Norris, Brittany Thoele (Cayde), and Joshua Joy. Each grandchild had their own unique relationship with gramps, grandpa and great grandpa—or as one of the greats called him when they were young—grandpa with the beard. They will all miss his knowledge and teachings of how to hunt, fish, track animals, and the fun times of being outdoors with him.

Traveling the United States is something that Chuck had done throughout his married life—starting out in Pennsylvania, he moved his family to Arizona, Mississippi, Missouri, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas and finally retiring back in Missouri. Chuck was a free-spirited cowboy who made friends throughout the United States. According to Grandson Andy, "he was as close to an old mountain man as you would find in these modern times." The grands all loved that about him.

In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by wife Lorraine in July 2013 and brother Roy. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law and grandchildren along with brother Ernie and sister Doris. Chuck is also survived by many good friends including Pennie, Kenny and Toni, Joe, and nephew Tim. His trusted fur friend Mindy will now be living with Pennie. He had many friends far and wide and tried to keep up with these relationships, he will be missed by many.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Vansant-Mills Funeral Home Clinton.
