Beverley June (Grunig) Lucas was born October 13, 1935, at the family farm southwest of Deepwater to Erwin Samuel and Hazel Dean (Keys) Grunig. Beverley graduated from Deepwater High School in 1953. On June 18, 1954, she married Edgar Lewis Lucas of Clinton where they made their home. Their son Samuel Edgar was born on June 19, 1955. Beverley enjoyed careers working with people. She was employed at Farmers' Bank in Clinton, at hatcheries, including Booth's where she first met Edgar, as a grocery checker at Plaza United Super, A&P, and Gerbes, she then entered a career in cosmetology graduating from Aldea School of Beauty in Clinton with licenses in Hairdressing, Manicuring, Esthetician, and as an Instructor. She worked for Aldea Oliver and purchased the beauty school and the Attic Salon renaming the school, Bev's School of Beauty. She operated both for many years moving the businesses to the Southwest corner of the Clinton Square. In recent years, she reduced the number of days she worked, but continued operating the Attic Salon. She never retired. Beverley was dedicated to her patrons, and students, she worked tirelessly to help those students learn, graduate, and begin a career in cosmetology.

Beverley was a member of Clinton United Methodist Church serving on church committees, singing in the Chancel Choir, and playing handbells. She was a member of the Roberta Rebekah Lodge #297 in Clinton, she held many lodge offices at the local and state levels.

Among survivors are her son, Sam (Phyllis) Lucas of Clinton, Missouri, two grandchildren, Sarah Marie Lucas of Coralville, Iowa, Samuel Edgar Lucas II (Antonia) of Hannibal, Missouri, a brother, Ron (Kay) Grunig of Clinton, Missouri; three nieces Joanna (George) Fesler and daughter Rachel, of Brier, Washington, Amy (Paul) Decker, their sons James and Michael of Indian Trail, North Carolina, Jennifer (Emmanuel) Cruz, and their children John (Sarah), Emily, and Evelyn of Richlands, North Carolina, as well as a host of cousins and a multitude of friends.

She will be remembered for her fierce loyalty to family, friends, students, and patrons. Her greatest delight was to see those she knew succeed and prove that her confidence in them was well-founded.
