Ruben Gonzales, age 60, of Clinton, Missouri, passed away at his home Friday, May 4, 2012 after a battle with cancer. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, May 9, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at the Assembly Of God Church, Clinton, with Graveside services in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, Missouri at 3:00 p.m. Family will receive friends one hour before the service on Wednesday at the Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ruben Gonzales Memorial Fund and they may be left in care of the funeral home. Fond memories may be left online at www.vansant-millsfuneralhome.com.

Ruben was born in Lamesa, Texas the son of Jesse and Susie (Castillo) Gonzales. He served eight years in the Marine Corps. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church, Clinton.

Ruben became an ordained minister August 25, 2004 and was active in teaching Bible studies and assisting with Church services at a retirement home and a nursing home in California. He and his wife did a weekly Church service at Golden Living Center-Westwood in Clinton for a year and were also Chaplains at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital, Clinton. He was also a chef, car mechanic and industrial mechanic. His love of animals led to his last business as a mobile dog groomer while in California. He also enjoyed working outdoors. Ruben's greatest joy was serving God and His people.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Susie Gonzales. Ruben is survived by his wife, Sheri Gonzales; four sister, Gracie Gonzales, Greeley, Colorado, Elsa Gonzales, Lamesa, Texas, Elda Gonzales Guerra and Maria Antonia Villareal both of Corpus Christi, Texas; five brothers, Julio Castillo, Midland, Texas, Jesse Lozano, Austin, Texas, twin brothers Gabriel Garcia, Corpus Christi, Texas and Ismael Garcia, Austin, Texas and Arturo Garcia, Corpus Christi, Texas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
